Creating unique and unforgettable event settings has
earned him the respect and recognition of clients and
colleagues alike from all over the South. Evolved from
his family's business, Richard Young's Event Rental in
Gretna, Louisiana.
One of Young's most memorable wedding events was a
traditional evening Hindu wedding in which he featured
two BlissLights BL-50s projected against the traditional
Hindu wedding canopy, or mandap, under which the
ceremony takes place. Young constructed the mandap from
pillars draped with white spandex, then illuminated the
spandex canopy with two floor-mounted BL-50s and Apollo
Heavenly Blue 4450 gels. "The effect was
amazing--everyone loved it and people couldn't quite
figure out where the light was coming from. The effect
was subtle enough that it didn't disturb the environment
of the celebration."
Young's got an eye for detail that includes observing
people's reactions to the lighting, sound, and the
entire set. "One thing that I look for is how much eye
movement the set creates. If there is too much eye
movement, then the set is distracting to the event, and
that is something that I want to avoid. At this party,
we were very successful in creating a beautiful,
breathtaking set that didn't interfere with the
celebration. It enhanced it beautifully by creating an
elegant and unique mood." The bride and groom were
thrilled and commented, "We loved the overall effect on
the party--we're sure that this is an event that won't
be outdone for a long time!"
It's the vast creativity and excellent execution of
ideas like this that have earned Young numerous
accolades during his 15 years in the business, including
the 2000 Image Award from the American Rental
Association for Best Store Design. "One of the things
that we like to do when customers come into our store is
to educate them, and having a well-designed store allows
us to do just that. It's very hands-on and people love
to see what they're getting. It's much more effective
than just looking at a catalog or a book."
Young is thrilled to have BlissLights in his repertoire,
adding "This is the kind of lighting you want at a
party, and it will be interesting to see how many
companies pick up on this market niche. There are
companies all over the world who would love a light like
this, and I've got one!"
